Weekend in Leitrim

We spent the weekend in Leitrim. It was really lovely to enjoy a bit of family time away from home. We even got out for a cycle … we didn’t bring the cargo bike! I have to warn right off the bat that I was snap happy!!!

We booked 2 nights at Canal Bank House through booking.com. The owners Philip and Michelle (and Bunty the dog of course) were extremely welcoming and very helpful. They have taken superb care of their garden and created a walk around the perimeter which you will see here in my photos:

Martin was on the swing before we even entered the 1 bed apartment to the side of their home!
Paul loved the man cave!
Martin was less convinced haha!
There were lots of benches dotted around for you to sit, rest and take in the tweeting birds or beautiful planting. It was a lovely mix of natural and planted.

You can hire bikes in Leitrim village from a bike shop if you arrive without any. We didn’t visit Lough Quay Forest Park but that’s also within cycling distance. Philip (the owner of where we stayed) offered us a loan of their bikes so that we could cycle along the canal to Drumshambo (about 4km). It was such a lovely cycle, I highly recommend it.

We then reached a playground so had to stop for Martin. He had a ball!

Drumshambo has a lot to offer and is well worth a visit. We continued our cycle a short distance further up the road.

Can you visit Drumshambo and not take in the distillery?! It’s beautifully decorated and they’ve a Covid friendly tour available. Their shop is lovely and restaurant has delicious scones and very nice coffee!
I highly recommend Jinny’s for tea and a treat. I feels it’s worth a mention that her granola is absolutely delicious and available to purchase!

We really enjoyed our stay. The inside of Canal Bank House was very clean. It had all the essentials and wonderful hosts. The only negatives I’d have were that the stairs were very creaky and the banister could do with fixing in one point. Also, there was no Wi-Fi from what we could see even though booking.com says they do have it. It didn’t bother us too much as we were away for a get away and happy not to check emails!!

It was such a lovely weekend and visiting Leitrim really lengthened it in a good way. We’ll definitely be back!
